overview I am interested in how insulin resistance affects the reproductive axis, risk for diabetes and liver health. As an MD, PhD with clinical training in pediatric endocrinology and research training in human physiology, I perform translational work in youth with endocrine disorders using stable isotope tracers, magnetic resonance spectroscopy and mathematical modeling. In particular, I am challenged by the extent of insulin resistance-related co-morbidities in girls with polycystic ovary syndrome, including a 21 fold increased risk of type 2 diabetes, common pre-diabetes and >50% with elevated liver fat. My overall goal is to improve the long term health for adolescents with polycystic ovary syndrome or type 2 diabetes and to perform work to inform clinical trials for new therapeutic strategies.
