I am a transplant cardiologist who mixes clinical practice, operations, and healthcare delivery research. My interests include improving our ability to anticipate progression into end-stage heart failure and then helping patients make tough choices regarding invasive therapies . I am co-director of the Colorado Program for Patient Centered Decisions. Our team recently completed the PCORI-funded multicenter trial of decision support for patients and their caregivers offered a left ventricular assist device (the DECIDE-LVAD trial) and now has a follow up grant to disseminate these results (I-DECIDE-LVAD, 2019-2022). Our team also recently completed an American Heart Association Network Award investigating tools to increase patient engagement around heart failure medication prescribing (the EPIC-HF trial, 2016-2020).
