overview The central goal of my research program is to understand the molecular basis of pacemaking in the sinoatrial node of the heart. Projects irange from ion channel biophysics to whole animal physiology. Information about the molecular mechanisms that govern cardiac pacemaking is critical for the development of novel and specific therapies to control heart rate. My group has extensive experience in patch clamp recordings from isolated sinoatrial node myocytes, transfected cell lines and iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes. We have also pioneered other methods for study of the sinoatrial node, including ECG recordings from unanesthetized mice, biochemistry using mouse sinoatrial node samples, immunocytochemistry, and computational approaches.
