Introduction: Educating residents on clinical surgical services is a challenging prospect that has been made more difficult by the COVID-19 pandemic. Wikis are part of the social media revolution that allow collaborative editing by their users. The best-known example is Wikipedia – the de facto encyclopedia of our time. However, wikis have not been previously utilized for surgical education in review of the literature. To address this gap, an internal Plastic Surgery Wiki for resident education was established at University of Colorado. The objectives of this project were to: 1. Analyze key website performance indicators using Google Analytics 2. Conduct a survey of the wiki’s value as a surgical education tool, 3. Implement a reward incentive bounty for generating content. Methods: The wiki was created with the DokuWiki (“Doku” is short for documentation in German; “Wiki” is Hawaiian for fast) platform and assigned the domain UCResident.com. Google Analytics was used to track key performance indicators including: pageviews, session time, number of users and edits. A survey was administered with Google Forms. A bounty incentive system was funded with a Rymer Grant. Results: There was an average of over 500 unique pageviews per month. Users spent an average of 1.25 min on each page. The number of active users was consistent over the academic year (Figure 1). Over half the residents (61.6%) used the wiki at least daily and all residents (n = 13) rated wiki use as either quite important or essential (4 or 5 on a scale of 5; Figure 2). Seven residents generated 27 entries in response to the reward incentive bounty. Conclusions: The wiki acts as an enhanced education tool for collaborative learning as demonstrated by universal resident utilization, high daily access and over half of residents generating content.
