    Collapse overview
I am a cardiologist and health services researcher with an extensive background in using large datasets to examine and improve healthcare quality. For the past six years, my research has been focused on the evaluation of the clinical outcomes, economics, and social consequences of new health care policies and cardiovascular technologies. My post-graduate training in health services research at the University of Pennsylvania focused on the application of econometric methods of analysis to administrative data, and I have experience using a wide variety of administrative databases (including claims from Medicare, the Veterans Health Administration, commercial insurance payers, and statewide all-payer databases). In 2017, I received a pilot grant from the University of Colorado Data Science to Patient Value Initiative to gain and disseminate expertise in use of the Colorado All-Payer Claims Database (APCD) to other researchers at the University of Colorado. I am currently funded by a career development award from the American Heart Association in which I am using a mixed-methods approach to understand and identify strategies to improve appropriate use of noninvasive cardiovascular tests and achieve high-value cardiovascular healthcare. As Chair of the Colorado chapter of the American College of Cardiology’s Quality Committee, I have partnered with the Colorado Hospital Association to examine and improve the quality of care delivered in the state.
